It's 5:15 a.m.
It's the perfect time to start a new adventure...
It's off to the bus station!
It's a relief to be leaving the craze of San Jose...
Monteverde here we come!
Only it wasn't that simple. A true adventure never is.
We pack up, pack on, and pack out of the hotel and start the walk to the bus station.
Thank God for Google maps! It leads us through the unfamiliar city terrain to the bus station.
Only it didn't really look like a bus station, and we stood confused long enough for a taxi driver to come over and start talking to us.
It's a frenzy of broken Spanish and language barriers.
It's something about "The station isn't here" "Your bus already left" "I'll take you to your bus" "Your bus leaves tomorrow" "I'll take you myself, 160,000 colons ($300 dollars)"
It's confusing and fishy...
We break away from the desperate taxi driver sensing something wasn't quite right with his stories and go into the strange building, which once inside, was in fact, the bus station.
We still didn't see any buses. We asked a guard about our bus and he pointed us to a line of people.
We stand in the line and file out to the other side of the building where we finally see buses.
We found our bus!
Unfortunately, the line we were standing in was for a different bus and apparently, we weren't allowed to just stand by our bus because a guard came and sent us back into the building to the back of a new line that had formed for the right bus.
It's 6:30 a.m.
It's time to board the bus
It's twisty roads with stunning views
Monteverde here we come!
I'll share a story of our entrance into Guatemala with a woman who spoke perfect Spanish as our companion for exactly that reason..when we next see u..
Safe travels & so glad u r smarter than u 🤔 think! Lotsalove your way!
The scenery reminds me of our area in Mexico..ENJOY!
Glad you were able to avoid that well laid "trap" I wonder how many unsuspecting souls have fallen for the cab drivers story and paid his price. I'm guessing more than one, especially after reading Judie's comment. I hope you enjoyed the scenery on the trip. What you shared looked pretty incredible. Sending all my love and gentle hugs.

Been there and done that....at the exact bus station....and the area of town that the bus station is in is very sketchy! We took the same bus to Monteverde, only our bus didn't leave till late afternoon. By the time we got to the turn off to the road to Monteverde, it was dusk. I don't know about now but when we went the road was twisty with steep drop-offs on the right side of the bus (which just happened to be the side we were sitting on. There were a few times when all I could see was a steep abyss...no road....no shoulder....then the road turned to gravel for part of the journey....we reached Monteverde at night with …
